Grants for Early Career Researchers

The revised Call for Application is published for the 2013-2015 period.

Members of the European Academic Network on Romani Studies are invited to submit an application for partial funding in order to attend relevant scientific events. Based on competitive applications received, small grants will be awarded; the maximum amount awarded is 500 euro. The aim of this grant scheme is to increase overall visibility of scientific research related to the European Roma and to encourage the attendance at scientific events (conferences, seminars, workshops, summer schools and internship periods) by early career scholars.

Priorities

The main target group for these grants are the associated members of the Network, though full members at the beginning of their careers will also be considered (that is during the ten years following the award of a PhD). Priority will be given to academic events where early career scholars can have the most impact in increasing awareness of Roma-related issues and visibility of the Network within the general academic community. Applications are encouraged for events within the European Union. Attendance of events outside the EU will also be considered.

Eligibility

Grants are offered on the following three conditions: (a) applicants should be members of the network, (b) he/she should be an early career researcher explaining the need for support via a short letter of motivation (1 page max), (c) the applicant should demonstrate that he/she will make a contribution (presentation) at the meeting / has been accepted as full time participant in the summer school or has been offered an opportunity for internship by a host institution.

Note: Attendance at events without proposing an active contribution will not be considered.

Eligible expenses

The following categories of expenses are supported by the grants:

  • Travel;
  • Accommodation;
  • Participation fee(s);
  • Subsistence expenses;
  • Visa to European Union countries or non-European countries.

 Procedure

Applications received will be reviewed by a team appointed by the Scientific Committee. The applicants will be notified and in the case of awarding the grant they will be offered full/partial support for their participation in the form of a prepaid ticket or reimbursement of expenses following the event, upon presentation of original invoices. Upon completion of the event the applicants are expected to complete a feed-back questionnaire / submit a report about the event and their participation.

Deadline

There is no fixed deadline for applications, which are considered on a rolling basis. Nevertheless, applications should be submitted at least six weeks prior to the event in order to allow for processing time.
