The Scientific Committee

The Scientific Committee (SC) was the main steering body of the European Academic Network on Romani Studies throughout the project period (June 2011-May 2015). Members of the SC participated in two annual meetings of the Committee. They supervised the work of the secretary. They were regularly consulted by the secretary and the project staff to offer advice, plan the activities of the network, support the recruitment, and validate new members joining the network.

Between June 2011 and February 2012 the first temporary SC helped to create the network and recruit the members. The list of members of the founding Committee is accessible on the leaflet of the Network. In February 2012 full members of the network elected a new SC (see details), this SC was completed with two representatives of the associated members in November 2012 (see details).

The Chair of the Scientific Committee was elected by the SC members during the regular meetings. Elisabeth TAUBER has been elected Chair during the 4th Meeting of the SC (December 2012) and renewed subsequently three times (at the 5th, 6th, and 7th SC Meetings).

The SC supported the operation of the network, guaranteed the academic profile of the membership, and helped the network achieve its main goal; to increase the visibility of the scientific knowledge available on the European Roma, and improve the planning and implementation of the policies related to Roma on European, national and local levels.

At the 7th Meeting of the SC a series of decisions have been adopted (see full report). In line with these decisions new membership applications are submitted to the list administrator (rsnet.secretary@gmail.com) and reviewed by a validation committee, the initial composition of which is the following: Dr Eva Sobotka, Dr Judit Durst, Professor Yaron Matras, Professor Michael Stewart, Dr Elisabeth Tauber, and Dr László Fosztó. In due course the committee making the operation of the Network sustainable.
