Academic profile

My main research interest is in the fields of mobility, migration, ethnic relations and urban studies. My principal field has been Roma groups in Norway and Romania and their interrelations with the majority populations. My 1 year fieldwork in Romania for my PhD was conducted in Romanian and Romanes (Romany). I have been engaged in several court-cases concerning Roma in Norway as an expert witness. As I am working at an applied research institute, I have carried out research in most fields concerning, migrants, multiculturalism and transnationalism. I have also studied networks and adaptations processes in Norway among different migrant groups and the conditions of unaccompanied minor migrants in Norway. For the last years I have been engaged in a study of migrating Romanian Roma engaged in street-work in Norway and Scotland, with a Romanian PhD student in Edinburgh. The aim was to study the actual process of living and working as beggars in modern cities and their reception among the majority. We are publishing from this study this spring. I am currently engaged in a FP7 application concerning the Roma minorities in Europe. I am a member of The Romanis in Europe network. http://www.romanis.eu/ And the IMISCOE network, www.imiscoe.org.
