Academic profile
I am an anthropologist primarily interested in ethnic dynamics in contemporary Romania, that is, I prefer not to limit my interest to one ethnic group, but rather examine ethnicity as part of daily interactions, spatial politics and localized economics.
For the past year, I have conducted research in a multiethnic village in S Transylvania on continuities and transformations in local ethnic dynamics following decollectivization and massive outmigration of Saxons. One of my particular interests is showing how, contrary to majority opinion, the Rroma community, while aparently marginal, is and has been a central part of the village’s economy, social life, and sense of self.
