Academic profile

I am concentrated on the Nazi policies in Ukraine (1941-44) in regard to the two groups targeted to “special treatment”, i.e. Jews and Roma. In the focus of my research are the main stages of the Nazi persecution and extermination politics, as well as the victims’ reactions on the actions applied to them and their survival strategies. Among the most urgent issues to be researched are the common and specific features of the Nazi persecution of the Jews and the Roma of the wider context of the occupation regime, the evolution of the murderous policies depending on the top- and local leadership initiatives and their interrelation, as well as the differences of the German politics towards Jews and Roma practiced in various occupation zones (like that under the Wehrmach rule or another one under the civil authorities called Reichskommissariat Ukraine). Of particular interest are highly understudied issues like the attitudes of the local non-Jewish and non-Roma populations, on both personal and communal levels, to the Nazi persecution policies and their behaviour towards those who needed help, and the extent the “Jewish” and “Gypsy Questions” were present in the local Nazi-sponsored press published in the occupied Ukraine.
