Academic profile
I started to work on Romani related issues during my study visit in 2006 in Prague where I was attending lectures at the Institute for Romani Studies (Romistika) at Charles University. For my Master Thesis I carried out a sociolinguistic field research in a Romani Community close to Prague. Due to my participation in a EU-‐project in a Slovak Romani village in 2007/08 where I was working in a leisure time centre with the local children, I increased my focus also on racism (anti-‐gypsyism) and education. Recently, I am working on topics related to Romani migrations. Stricto sensu on Romani migrations from Slovakia to the city of Graz for begging. Within this research not just the situation in Graz is taken into consideration but also the Slovak regions of origin. By doing so, questions of ethnicizations are raised and within these processes, questions of power and agency for the affected persons. In addition, a special focus is also put on NGO activities and their impact on individuals as well as on whole communities.
