Brief introduction

Urban sociologist, Ethnographer and author of Socio Anthropological documentaries. Participates to various researches on ethnic minorities in the Roman urban area on the themes of immigration, social exclusion and integration processes with particular regard to the Maghrebi and Roma communities. Has done extensive researches and written articles on Roma's situation in Italy on social change and exclusion and integration processes, and participated to various national and international conferences on this theme. Has taught Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Molise and collaborated with different research groups and institutions. Honorary Research Fellow, Birmingham University 2010 - 2011 Registered at the Official Board of Trainers for the Municipality of Rome. Expert for the Intercultural Cities Network project, organised by the Council of Europe DG Culture. Member of the European Academic Network of Romanì Studies, organised by the Council of Europe DG Culture. Expert to assist EU Directorate-General for Regional Policy in the appraisal, implementation and monitoring of Cohesion policy intervention. Academic profile

I have participated to various researches on Ethnic Minorities in the Roman urban area and more generally, on the themes of immigration, social exclusion and marginality and am an experienced researcher and fieldworker, trained since 1990 to work in multiethnic metropolitan shanty towns and other urban informal insediaments inhabited by Roma and migrants from the Maghrebi area. I have also worked with Italian young offenders and early school leavers, having been responsible of an outreach work team for the contrast to youth deviance and criminality in the VIIth District of Rome and financed by the Rome City Council. Since 1992 I began to work with Roma refugees from former Jugoslavia and have been working intensively with members of this community since then and up to date. My main research expertise is that of Ethnic minorities in the Roman metropolitan area. Immigration, social exclusion and integration processes with particular regard to the Maghrebi and Roma communities. Informal economy and informal dwellings in Europe. Economy of the slums. Roma's situation in Italy, social change and exclusion and integration processes. Urban Sociology, Ethnicity and Integration Issues, Social Policies. Action research.
