Academic profile
Ryan is a principal research fellow at CRESR with research interests in the broad areas of geographies of exclusion and urban sociology. He has over ten years of academic research experience and has worked on studies for the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF), Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Communities and Local Government (CLG), the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government, Regional Assemblies, and various local authorities and charitable organisations.
He has extensive experience in both quantitative and qualitative research techniques and has published his research findings in various academic journals and edited collections. Key research interests include: deviance and social control; the governance of behaviour; Gypsy-Travellers; housing and labour market processes; the sociology of Norbert Elias. Ryan is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal
Sociological Research Online.
