Academic profile

Professor of Social Work, clinical psychologist; the chair of the Social Work Department,  in Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj, Romania. Before entering the academic field I have worked 13 years with children as a speech therapist, a school psychologist and clinical psychologist in special schools, orphanages and hospitals. These experiences have marked my professional career and oriented me to child welfare. I am one of the founders of the social work studies in Romania, working in the Social Work department since 1991. I obtained Ph.D. in Psychology in 1998, with a research on the role of families and social status in facilitating cognitive development in preschool period. I spent 9 moths as a Fulbright senior researcher in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA. I published several books and articles in the area of child well-being, prevention of violence in schools and families, and the changes in the Romanian child welfare system. I am teaching and develop research in the area of Child welfare; Domestic violence; Program and service evaluation; Social exclusion. Recent research projects focus on Social dimensions of school success, Service standards in protecting Romanian children from abuse and neglect; Children’s rights and Youth’s transition to young adulthood.
