Academic profile

Nóra Teller, a sociologist, has worked on several international projects for the Council of Europe, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the European Commission’s 5th, 6th and 7th Framework research programmes and the European Spatial Planning Observation Network (ESPON). She has conducted research on issues about social housing construction and housing allowances in Hungary, and has been involved in the development of local-level housing strategies in Hungary and in consultation on the development of some national-level housing programmes. She was one of the housing experts and evaluators of the Roma settlement rehabilitation programme in Hungary 2005-2008. In the framework of an OSI/LGI Fellowship she conducted research in segregated urban areas and local development in 2007. As part of an EU-funded project, she was advising the state government of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the development of a national-level social housing policy strategy. She has published several papers on social housing policy and decentralization and co-edited a publication on security and insecurity issues of home-ownership, and most recently she conducted research on Roma housing related programs in 5 Central European Countries. The topic of her PhD thesis is Roma housing mobility after the transition in Hungary.
