Academic profile

Dr. Michal Vašečka (1972). Ph.D. (2004) in sociology from Masaryk University in Brno. As a visiting scholar he operated at the New School University in New York (1996-1997), and at the University of London (1998), in 2008-2009 he lectured at the Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Since September 2002 he serves as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Social Studies of Masaryk University in Brno and since 2005 also as a researcher at the Institute for Research in Reproduction and Integration of Society. In 2005 - 2010 Michal Vašečka lectured at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of the Comenius University Bratislava. In the position of a director of the Center for the Research of Ethnicity and Culture Michal Vašečka serves since january 2006. Dr. Vašečka worked from 1995 - 1996 as a researcher at the InfoRoma Foundation and a legal advisor for the UNHCR Bratislava. In 1995 - 1996 he was lecturing on Public Policy Analysis at Academia Istropolitana, Institute for Advanced Studies, in 1997 - 1998 he was working at the Open Society Foundation as a program coordinator. In 1999 - 2005 he has worked at the Slovak think-tank Institute of Public Affairs as a researcher and since January 2000 as a program director on expert analysis of the Slovak transformation process with a focus on national minorities and the state of civil society in Slovakia. He has been a consultant for the World Bank in 2000-2008.
